ArchivalResource

Boston neighborhood studies collection, 1959-1996.

Most of these neighborhood studies are reports prepared for the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA); some are brochures, booklets or proposals published by the City of Boston or the Boston Landmark Commission; one is an exhibit catalog published by the Bostonian Society and the South End Historical Society; and one is a proposal by a potential developer (including photographs). The studies cover, in varying detail, the history of particular Boston neighborhoods or "subneighborhoods," issues that citizens and, presumably, contractors should consider in planning future development, living and social conditions, and some demographic analysis. Some publications include photographs; most of the studies include maps.
